The Creative Therapy Circle in 2025
When I first started the ARt Therapy Workshops at the Cheltenham Community Centre, I couldn’t have imagined the profound impact it would have on the people who joined. What began as a small, local art therapy group in Melbourne has grown into a vibrant space where people come to reconnect with themselves, heal and discover their creative potential.
The inspiration for these workshops came from conversations I had with people who felt stuck, overwhelmed, or simply disconnected. People shared their stories of navigating divorce, burnout, moving to a new country, or reaching a point in life where they didn’t recognize themselves anymore. They needed a safe, non-judgmental space to explore their feelings, find clarity, and grow.
Why We Expanded to Online and In-Person Workshops
Throughout 2024, we ran a full year of Saturday workshops in Cheltenham. Week after week, I saw how much this space meant to the people who attended. One participant told me how she found herself again after years of feeling lost in the chaos of daily life. Another shared how these sessions helped her navigate the challenges of supporting others as a social worker.
It became clear that more people needed access to this safe space. That’s why, for 2025, we’re offering both in-person workshops in Cheltenham and online sessions. The online option makes it possible for people from anywhere in the world to join live or catch up through lifetime access to recordings.
A Unique Approach: The Active Kreative Methodology
At the heart of the Creative Therapy Circle is the Active Kreative approach. This method combines multiple modalities to ensure every session is unique, engaging, and transformative. Each workshop integrates:
Art Therapy: Explore emotions through neurographic art, intuitive drawing, and collage-making.
Somatic Practices: Gentle movements and sensory awareness exercises to release tension and reconnect with your body.
Mindfulness Techniques: Guided meditations and breathwork to ground yourself and foster relaxation.
Sacred Geometry: Create harmonious patterns to promote balance and focus.
Phototherapy: Use personal or symbolic images to reflect on your emotions and life journey.
Nature-Based Rituals: Incorporating elements like water therapy, inspired by Veda Austin, to explore transformation and metaphor.
Metaphorical Cards: A creative tool for self-reflection and discovering personal insights.
Sensory Exploration: Engage with smells, sounds, and textures to deepen your creative experience.
This multidimensional approach ensures that no two workshops feel the same, keeping the experience fresh while offering a wide range of tools to support your emotional and creative growth.

How the Creative Therapy Circle Helps People
Our workshops provide a safe, nurturing space where people feel seen and supported. Here’s how:
A Space to Reconnect: People often share how these sessions help them pause and reconnect with parts of themselves they’d forgotten.
Processing Emotions: Whether it’s grief, anger, or uncertainty, art therapy offers a non-verbal way to process and express what words can’t capture.
Building Resilience: Through mindfulness and creative exploration, people find the strength to face life’s challenges.
Fostering Connection: The circle creates a sense of belonging, where people support one another through shared experiences.
